Patient and Carer Information
Before your appointment
As you may have allergy testing done at your appointment, please stop taking allergy tablets or antihistamines at least 3 days before your appointment as they may interfere with your allergy testing. However, do not stop taking any other medications including inhalers or puffers.
On the day
On the day of your appointment, please bring:
Common foods can be tested for in our clinic but, if you suspect a particular or unusual food, please find out the ingredients of the dish before hand. You can bring in the packaging, contact the restaurant or talk to the chef.
Testing against the fresh or cooked product can also be informative. Sometimes there may be a reason why testing to fresh foods may not be performed but it is helpful to have these available at the time. Please check with reception when making your appointment.
Fees & Payments
All fees are payable on the appointment day. New patients are seen in-person in the rooms, unless otherwise advised by Dr Hew.
If you are offered or prefer follow-up by telehealth, and are eligible for telehealth consultation, appointments (through telephone or video link) are billed at the same fees as in-person consultations. We accept VISA, Mastercard, EFTPOS, and electronic bank transfer. Following payment, we will submit your account to Medicare to rebate part of your fees directly back to you. Please ensure you have an up to date referral to access your Medicare rebates.
This is a private practice and as such we do not bulk bill or have concession rates for appointments. If you have any queries regarding the fees please contact us. If there is an outstanding amount on your account, further appointments can be made once this balance is cleared.
How to make an appointment
You need a referral from your doctor before you can make an appointment with Dr Hew. Referrals can be sent by email to reception@drmeilynhew.com.au, or submitted by your GP via Healthlink ID drmeilyn. GP referrals are valid for 12 months and other specialist referrals are valid for 3 months from the date of your first appointment.
Once your referral has been reviewed by Dr Hew, you will receive a confirmation of appointment notification from the rooms.
On the occasion if your referral is not determined to be within the scope of Dr Hew’s practice, we will inform your GP.
Please note:
- Current waiting times for a New appointment with Dr Hew are 4-6 months.
- Dr Hew consults in-person at Murdoch on Mondays and Fridays.
Cancellations
You will receive an SMS to confirm your appointment 7 days and 4 days prior to your appointment time. Please cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 48 hours in advance if you are not able to attend, so that it can be offered to another patient on the waitlist.
If you cancel less than 48 hours in advance or do not attend your scheduled appointment, a $110 cancellation fee will apply. This fee is not rebatable by Medicare.
